I mentioned a couple things in my review about it that I don't like (they use different extensions for the files (which can be gotten around easily) and you have to have the CD installed to start the program which can also be bypassed but I think for the price its a great screenplay formatter. If they made it too much like MMS no one would buy the "full" program. But that's the whole point of the inexpensive alternative. Most of the folks who gave it bad reviews did so because it was too limited in their estimation that it's not enough like Final Draft or MMS, and is less flexible. One thing that has scared me away from Hollywood Screenwriter is the bad reviews it has gotten on. Some are free, some are commercial, but it's another option. There are a few others, plus there are templates that work with Word (if you like Word).

You can still get Celtx for free and it's not that bad of a program. Are there any other choices out there for scripts besides Hollywood Screenwriter and Screenwriter Pro? Say around $100.00 and under? Sophocles is close $120.

(Even though I like its programmer, MONday (who used to post here).) When the new version of Scenewriter Pro comes out, it is supposed to give you the option to have a traditional view (for old geezers like me who like that better). I think you're talking about Scenewriter Pro and that's the same thing that I don't like about it. But was hopping I can see it all without using the print preview.
everything using the print preview feature tho. I was playing around with Screenwriter Pro and one thing I really didn't like was how "scene" oriented it is. Of course, if you are a student, you should be able to get MMS for about $85 on eBay.

The good thing about "Hollywood Screenwriter is that, if you decide to upgrade to MMS later, they have a special trade-in program for Hollywood Screenwriter users. I decided to take the advice some of you gave and leave the expensive software for later.

Do you mean "Scene"writer Pro? I had Movie Magic Screenwriter ordered from but after thinking about it for an hour or so I decided to cancel the order. I think you could probably live without it, but it's pretty nice to have when comparing scripts. And the character's names and the average length of their dialog and a few little things like that. Script Analysis tells you how many elements (dialog and action) in the script also how many locations. What exactly does the script analysis feature do in the Hollywood Screenwriter software? Is it a useful feature for a spec script? I'm choosing between Hollywood Screenwriter for $38.00 or Screenwriter Pro for $50.00. Are there any other choices out there for scripts besides Hollywood Screenwriter and Screenwriter Pro? Say around $100.00 and under? You can see everything using the print preview feature tho. Maybe I'm not using it right, but I don't think you can see your whole script while you are typing.
